books i like!!
notes from underground
Fyodor Dostoevsky
i think i love this book because a lot of the things in this are concepts that i’ve thought about for a long time, but have never been able to put down in words; and i finally get to see a stream of consciousness style novella that is incredibly relatable. i love this book so much, it discusses suffering, anti-nihilism, intellect, society, self loathing, vanity, pride, ego-death and isolation. the usual things i think about every night. very cool!!!
blood meridian
Cormac McCarthy
cowboys, western desert, psychedelics, violence, murder, esoteric entities. good shit all around 10/10 one of my favorite books ever, maybe the favorite, and the writing style is kinda rlly hard to follow but the experience of reading the book is really good
understand
Ted Chiang
quite a short story with very linear writing but i like the style because it’s easy to follow, very to the point, simple and efficient, i feel my brain works similarly. it didn't end on a high note or a low note, it had an up and down, and a semi-hidden moral at the end, with the outside vs inside fight. the inner world allows you to master yourself, but the other guy understood the world and everyone else first. it essentially asks the question: if you had knowledge and intelligence that transcended the possibilities of a normal human brain, would you attempt to help humankind evolve, or would you disassociate and try to satisfy all your personal curiosities?
